Got this letter from Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty. The time to act is now otherwise we'll end up like "Socialist Spain" with 20% unemployment.

September 17, 2009 Dear Friend of Liberty: One day, you hear a loud knock on your front door. But it’s not a neighbor visiting or someone trying to sell you a subscription. Instead, it’s a federal agent -- the federal government’s newest threat to your liberty demanding to check your household appliances . . . your light bulbs . . . your thermostat . . . and this is NO JOKE. Organic Food Producers in DANGER! HR 2749

Urgent health freedom information

A call to arms to save our food and our freedom!

The very future of organic food in the United States has come under attack. And if we don't act -- and fast -- the health of you and future generations could be permanently compromised.

Congress, in its infinite stupidity, has recently passed House Resolution 2749. This ugly bit of legislation is called the "Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009."

Boy, is that a misnomer if I've ever heard one.

Typical of all Obama legislation, this fascist act was hurried through Congress too quickly for any lawmaker to read it (assuming any of those dolts would have bothered to try).




The farm controls mandated by this law would usher in complete government control of the food supply, and ultimately the end of organic foods. Why? Because it would give the FDA complete power to impose one-size-fits-all regulations on ALL food producers -- including independent farmers.

And because this bill also limits the amount of recourse food producers have in the courts, this means that the FDA will be able to snuff out all the foods this agency (and the influential lobbyists at whose behest this agency tends to act) it wants.

That's right: in one fell swoop, the Obama Administration is about to do away with all of pesky little state struggles being waged against organic farms and dairies, and win the war with one gigantic, fascist law.

All of those good things I've been telling you to consume more of -- raw milk, hormone- free meat, organic vegetables -- would be gone. For good.

Of course, the bill doesn't spell that out in so many words. No one would agree to it.

But since it would impose all manner of standards that would be impossible or unaffordable for small, organic farms to meet, the bill sentences organic farmers to death by paper cuts.

And those farmers guilty of even the most minor infraction of the many new regulations will feel the entire weight of the federal government crashing down upon them -- fines in the millions of dollars, and prison terms up to a staggering eight years.

The bill would even require ALL food producers to register with the FDA... for the hefty sum of $1,000!

But this hideous bill isn't a law just yet. There's still hope -- and that hope lies with you.

Help me defeat this dangerous bill

While the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 has already passed the House, there's still time to be sure it doesn't get past the Senate and into range of Obama and his deadly pen.

But I can't stress this enough: the time is NOW.

As you know, I've been an outspoken proponent of organic and natural foods. As Americans, it is our right -- as well as the rights of our children and grandchildren -- to have the freedom to eat the kind of food we think is best for our health.

We must smash this attempt at complete government control of the very food we eat. And that's why I've partnered with the Natural Solution Foundation (NSF), and their efforts to kill HR 2749 in the Senate.

Since 2004, the NSF has worked toward the same goal that I write to you about each week: the support of health freedom in the United States. I think this organization is a valuable and powerful ally in this fight.

I urge you to join me and my partners at the NSF to act now to help put an end to this bill. We've already seen arrogant lawmakers made to cower before the outrage of American voters who are against the monstrous Obama healthcare reform bill. Let them hear your outrage at the Draconian restrictions of this so-called "Food Safety Act."

Congress is trying to skyrocket your cost of living while putting another 1 million-plus Americans out of work. And they want to do it before the week is out.

You see, the “Cap-and-Trade” bill currently in the House is really nothing more than a thinly disguised energy tax that will hit every single American.

And now Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats are pushing this tax hike toward a vote that could come as soon as Friday.

That’s why we need to act now.

I have included the number for the Congressional switchboard, but first I want you to understand the disastrous consequences of this Cap-and-Tax Scheme.

By invasively manipulating an already over-regulated energy industry, this legislation seeks to fix an alleged problem that has recently been discredited by over 31,478 scientists -- including over 3,803 with specific expertise in atmospheric, earth, and environmental sciences.

All 31,478 of these scientists are trained to understand and evaluate the scientific data relevant to the human-caused global warming hypothesis -- and are speaking out against government “remedies.”

With this bill, Congress is once again just doing what it does best -- fleecing taxpayers to further an alarmist agenda.

You see, energy companies just pass the costs of these draconian regulations through to the consumer in the form of huge price increases.

As a result, you will pay higher gas prices, higher electric prices, and higher costs for goods.

Barack Obama has estimated the costs of this legislation to American taxpayers to be over 650 BILLION dollars over the next eight years, and that figure is no doubt just a fraction of the real cost.

But even that modest estimate amounts to hundreds of dollars a year in increased living expenses for every family -- and will more likely cost thousands a year.

And according to the Heritage Foundation, between 1.2 and 2.3 million jobs could be lost over the next ten-years due to the bill’s stifling regulations.

This current economic crisis is no time for Congress to consider both raising prices on hard-working Americans AND costing them jobs.

That’s why we must act now to send a message to Congress to reject this disastrous Cap-and-Tax Scheme.

Supporters of the legislation are of course trying to downplay the cost of this scheme to the American people.

But if the bill does not directly and massively increase energy costs to consumers, how would it possibly achieve its stated aims?

It is only through these massive cost increases -- mandated and enforced by the federal government -- that the dubious goal of reducing carbon emissions could possibly be reached. The only alternative to huge energy price increases would be massive, government-ordered power outages, leaving Americans literally in-the-dark like some war-torn Third World Country.
